On April 7, 2017 the European Union (EU) new entry / exit security regulations for the Schengen Area enter into effect. Detailed information can be found in the published amendment to Article 8 of Regulation (EU) 2016/399.
The new security regulations have police at entry and exit points systematically consult national, Interpol and EU police databases during passport checks in addition to the routine checks. These checks include EU and non-EU citizens.
If you are currently in the Schengen Area, anticipate and plan for delays due to increased processing times at entry and exit points.
If you are traveling to the European Union, verify you have appropriate travel documents with you.
