The U.S. Department of State warns of risks of travel to Eritrea, and the U.S. Embassy of Port-au-Prince warns about a spate of express kidnappings. International SOS issues an advisory to members ahead of Hajj. WHO certifies Sri-Lanka malaria free.

080316 – World Status Report

The U.S. Department of State warns of travel to Nigeria, Lebanon and Saudi Arabia. The WHO restates advice for pregnant women on Zika and shares the latest report on the Yellow Fever outbreak in Angola. The CDC updates the Zika virus advisory for 51 countries, announces mosquito transmission detected in Florida in the U.S, and provides guidance for travelers and how to prevent Zika at home.

Hajj and Umrah in Saudi Arabia

The annual Hajj pilgrimage to Mecca, Saudi Arabia, is among the largest mass gatherings in the world. It draws about 3 million Muslims from around the world, and more than 11,000 Americans make the pilgrimage each year. This year, Hajj will take place from approximately September 09–14, 2016 and will see triple digit temperatures. Umrah is a similar pilgrimage that can be undertaken at any time of the year but is likely to be more crowded during the month of Ramadan (approximately June 5 to July 5, 2016).
